PLEASE READ BEFORE USING THE MYTHIC TOKEN!!
There are a few things that should be considered before using your Mythic Token!!
You CAN NOT use it if your character has more than 200 skill points, so don’t be so quick to start leveling skills without using it.
Some skills are easier to level than others. For an example, hiding, animal lore, anatomy, tactics, any of the combat skills, meditation, focus etc, are all skills that can either level naturally with other skills or with the use of macros, or can be leveled quickly with the training Golems.
Music and Peacemaking and why you might think about making these 2 of the 5 skills to be boosted.
Tamers, this is where you should really be paying attention. Obtaining the Book of Masteries should be high on your list of things to do. The EASIEST way to obtain said Book is by doing the Peacemaking quest. This will give you, not only the Peacemaking Mastery (Primer) but also the Book of Masteries where all the future primers (Masteries) that you eat will be stored and used. If you are not familiar with the Book of Masteries please visit Skill Mastery - UOGuide, the Ultima Online Encyclopedia.
As a Tamer you will want to get ahold of an Animal Taming primer and a Taming/Lore PowerScroll(s) as soon as possible. The primer will give you access to Combat Training and with this we can macro from 90 all the way to 120 taming in a MUCH shorter time period.
In order to do the bard Mastery Quest you need 90 Music and Peacemaking. Speaking to the Spirit Soother NPC at the Bard guildhall in Britain will give you this quest. Completion rewards both the Peacemaking Mastery and the Book of Masteries (the main reason we are doing this).
This guide’s purpose is not to force or talk you into playing any specific way but only to highlight a few tips and tricks that fellow players believe will help things along. If you do not wish to rush the process, Music and Peacemaking both are relatively easy to level up from scratch but when it comes to obtaining the Book of Masteries, going the bard route is the route to take if you aren’t prepared to kill Champs. If you are ready to handle a Champ please proceed to Hawkwind in Ter Mer. He has the quest.
No matter how you slice and stitch your character(s) together with the 1200 skill cap, eventually you will find yourself at the Training Golems. Whether its to use the pair of golems close to one another to level up Bushido and melee skills or simple training up your new pet, there are a couple things about the Golems that you should be aware of before you click on that Macro and walk away:
TAMERS: Make Sure Your Pets Are Fed. Not feeding your pets and going AFK while they beat on things could end in disaster. (A disaster that will end with Staff not replacing lost pets due to long AFK moments while training) They could (your pets), without being fed, lose loyalty and become untamed/unbonded (depending on how long you were gone and not feeding, especially if you crashed or lost connection to the server). Make sure you feed them not only right after you unshrink them but before you leash them as well. Every time you leash a pet, it loses a small bit of loyalty. Once or twice, this isn’t a problem but if you don’t pay attention to your pet’s loyalty before you leash it, you could potentially unbind your pet (which makes your now-shrunken pet statue lose its blessed property) and lose it. While training some pets will require you to change targets when the Training Progress bar hits 50%, simple have it attack a different golem. If you are unfamiliar with the Pet Training process please visit Beginning Advanced Animal Training | uo-cah.com (uo-cah.com)
NON-PET TRAINERS: The Golems provide excellent gains for a lot of skills. They do hit back however but it isn’t your hit points you will need to watch. These Golems are hungry for the Durability on your gear. DO NOT wear ANYTHING you do not wish these Golems to chew up and destroy. There are MANY books all over the Golem Training Grounds that express this Warning. Train with gear that is expendable. Staff is NOT responsible for replacing ANY gear lost to the never ending appetite of the Training Golems, you have been warned…..again.
Why you should be playing with [PvPMode Enabled, especially in Felucca.
As you are aware, Paragon UO has opt in/out PvP. This might have been one of the key features that brought you here. If you are thinking, “I can go around Felucca and never worry about being PKed, why would I bother turning it on?” please allow me a couple of sentences to try to convince you on why you should have it Enabled, especially while you are in Felucca.
Yes, you will be vulnerable to other players and yes other players may attack and/or kill you but with PvP Mode enabled if you are outside of town, not in a boat or house, you will be getting a 30% increase to skill gains in Fel. You will also be getting twice the chance to get 120 power scrolls from killing Champs. Don’t forget to INSURE your gear! (Which you should do anyway because monsters can loot corpses too!).
I LIKE GOOOOOOOOOOOLD!
Gold is relatively easy to come by here on Paragon UO but it might not seem that way at first. Here are a few tips on how to start bringing in the gold while still getting geared up for Champs. This is where you will probably want to purchase the Master Loot bag from one of the Gold Sink Stones at Luna Bank. It’s only 1 gold and probably the best 1 gold you will ever spend. You can thank me later.
Every 24 hours your character is granted access to a gold Power Hour ([PH command) during this hour all gold drops are increased! Take advantage of this sweet magical hour and stack that gold, Champions!
The dungeon Mythic located under New Haven is a great place to get started on your freshly Tokened character. There are 4 quests that can be completed every 5 hours and these are a good source of income early on in the game that can help you afford things like full spell books and the gear that be obtain will help you on your way to getting your hands on the better goods down the road. Mythic dungeon lies in the basement of the building just south of New Haven Bank and the quests can be found within.
Monster Contracts: While they are rather random for both creature and the amount given for said creature, the bounties here can be rough in terms of getting some gold. If you know where things spawn they could go fast and accumulate quickly. The randomness for bounty difficulty however (example 14 scorpions for 400 gold and the next being 7 skeletal dragons for 32k) makes these bounties a little less appealing in my opinion, especially as a newer player who might not be able to handle the quick turn of difficulty from one Contract to the next.
Places like the Miasma spawn or Dreadhorn/Swoop area are a great place to farm quick gold if you can handle the mobs. They respawn quickly and drop decent loot. The Stygian Abyss is a great place to farm as well. Not only can you find Imbuing mats down there but also some good gear drops from some of the named bosses.
Sleeping Dragon Champ spawn in Tokuna is another excellent place to farm. Plenty of gold from the advanced waves but you can also farm Treasures of Tokuna minor artifacts, 10 of which can be turned in for a major artifact. Keep your eyes peeled for Leurocian’s Mempo of Fortune, it’s a keeper! Killing creatures is the goal here, not completing the champ!
Resource Gathering!!!: We are still a small community and while we are continuing to grow and strive our Economy has yet to really take off. What does this mean for you as a Resource gatherer? Well, there is literally no market for things like wood, ingots, leather or Imbuing ingredients. It is a seller’s market and those Crafters need those materials! With this in mind though, please remember, it was the PLAYER BASE that ruined OSI’s economy. Keep the prices fair but definitely make that money, you Gather..er!
Champ spawns are probably going to be the Holy of Holies when it comes to making that ever so precious Gold coin. A Champion upon death drops around 500-600k gold. Get some people together and see what you can come up with to drop on of these baddies for a very nice pay day!
Tamer’s get a small hand up with the [SellPet command. You can profit a little after all that hard work of following that recent tame around. The better the pet the better the price but don’t expect to get rich from the sweat of your Taming brow alone, oh no my dear reader, this is all to help get your foot in the door to buying gear, spell books, power scrolls, primers or perhaps leveling up your own crafter (Going to need those resources!).
Crafting: Kind of self-explanatory here, not everyone has a crafter or even wants to craft but surely everyone will need a piece or pieces of crafted gear at some point.
Paragon UO and the Tamer.
While Paragon UO has more than just custom taming this next bit of information is specially for those who decided to play here to scratch that Tamer’s itch. A list of all custom pets and tamable creatures can be found in the Server Information on the Paragon UO website provided by our amazing host, Izex. Below are some helpful tips and some advice designed only to get you on your way to Taming the biggest and best pets Paragon UO has to offer.
Maxing out your Follower slots is going to be important. The more you have the more or the better the pet(s) you can have out at one time. 10 is the max. Clockwork Exodus and the Harrower are the two mobs that drop +1 slot deeds. Out of the two, Clockwork Exodus is by far the easiest. You will however need a buddy to complete the summoning ritual. The Harrower is a bit more complex as you need to obtain 6 Champion skulls to summon him. You may also be able to find the deeds on vendors but expect to pay a pretty high price.
There are a few starter pets that I would like to point out that are a good step up in starting your Tamer and progressing towards and passed 100 Taming. The Paragon Boura is a great pet to get early on. These guys are 3 slots to start, trainable up to 5. They can tank pretty well with 2k hp and with some help from veterinary or healing spells, it can get the job done in say, the Miasma spawn if you are in need of gold. You can find these guys north of the Royal City. With 100 taming, you can not go wrong with Amalthea (located north east of the Ridge Back spawn). You will however need 7 slots to use her. The regular version of Amalthea is pretty good but the Paragon version is better. Soon as you hit 108 taming the doors are open to everything tamable. The more taming you have the better control you will have of your pets and the loyalty won’t be lost as quickly. (The more often you need to tell them to do something, the lower the pet loyalty gets). If you have an itch to go tame a beast from your past experiences with the game, remember the paragon version is much better than the regular one!
Eventually you may hear about or possible see someone with werewolves. These beasts are mighty with their ability to heal/cure themselves and their owner, that means YOU! They can be trained once to a max of 5 slots. These things are great untrained but with some attention to training abilities, they are hard to not use. I would advise having 110 or 115 taming/lore at the very least to make sure you can keep these guys under control.
Not only can we tame Paragons but we can also summon them as well. Magery, Spellweaving and Mysticism are all affected at skill level 110, 115 and 120. These Are NOT To Be Overlooked!!! Some creatures will devour your TAMED pets no matter how good they are!! Some mechanics are NOT friendly to your typical Tamer.
